Idaho Falls Shootout Tournament Summary

May 2 - 4, 2008

Game 1 vs Madison u16. Won 6-1

Formation 5-3-2. Sluggish first half tied 1-1 at the break. Players regained their form and scored several goals early in the second half. The remainder of the game was long defensive clears (per coach's instruction) to our forwards into 3v8 situations and the young men were still successful in creating quality strike attempts.

Game 2 vs Extreme u17. Won 1-0

Formation 5-3-2. A good, tough game against talented athletes, friends and the two best teams in the u17 age group.

Game 3 vs Sawtooth u17. Won 2-1

Formation 5-3-2. The second game of the day for both teams. Back and forth in the first half as our air game was not as effective due to the opponent's height. The opponent's offense was mostly a result of free kicks given by the referee. Changing to a ground passing scheme and aggressive defensive wing play in the second produced a goal early in the second half for a 2-nil lead. A late opponent's score made for an interesting finish but the young men held to seal the victory.

CHAMPIONSHIP vs Sawtooth u17. Won 4-0

Formation 5-3-2. Our young men had the better of the opponent the entire game. Continuing the ground passing scheme and aggressive defensive wing play from the previous game, the lead was 1-nil at half. Also added for this game was the striker wall on the opponent's free kicks which essentially snuffed out their means of attack. The young men scored twice in the second half to bring the score to 3-nil with twenty minutes to play. A red card for a dangerous foul from behind intending to injure our player was given to the opponent with 15 minutes left in the game. Playing a man up, our young men scored quickly to bring the score to 4-nil.
